East Midlands Gateway is a nationally significant logistics and freight infrastructure development located adjacent to Castle Donington. The project comprises approximately 6 million square feet of rail-served warehouse space and a state-of-the-art intermodal freight terminal capable of accommodating up to 16 trains per day, creating one of the UK’s most important strategic freight hubs.
As a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), the development required extensive collaboration between multiple highway authorities, transport stakeholders, and government agencies. The challenge was to create a highly accessible logistics hub while minimizing impacts on the surrounding transport network and promoting sustainable travel options.
Working as part of Roxhill’s project team, we provided specialist transport planning and infrastructure engineering support throughout the planning and delivery process.

Planning consent was successfully secured in 2016, enabling the development of one of the UK’s leading rail freight and logistics hubs. The project continues to evolve, with ongoing infrastructure refinement and highway design support helping meet the needs of future occupiers while maintaining excellent connectivity and sustainable transport access.
